An Early Bronze Age bronze flat axe, of likely class 2D Halberton type (Needham 2017) dating to 2400BC - 2200BC.
The axe is near-complete but with significant surface losses, and some corrosion. It has a surviving length of 96.2mm. The original blade edge has been lost and is now moderately rounded, with a surviving width of 51.28mm. From the blade edge the body of the axe gradually narrows in shape and curves inwards. The axe gradually gets thicker in the centre (with a maximum thickness of 9.94mm) and tapers off towards the butt, creating a broadly lentoid profile with sli…

A cast copper alloy knife end cap/terminal/pommel from a scale tang knife, dating to the late Medieval or early Post-Medieval period (15th to 16th centuries AD).
The object is corroded but near complete. The design is irregular- a flattened oval sectioned base (which would have attached to the handle) bifurcated into two near symmetrical knops. Each knop is sub-rectangular in section and tapers slightly to flat ends. The outside edge of each end is upturned and projects outwards. Both ends are also decorated by four circular holes with square sectioned copper alloy rods inserted…

An incomplete copper alloy locket of Victorian/modern date (1856-1922). The locket is circular in plan with a diameter of 26mm and a remaining thickness of 5.0mm. The locket is in poor condition comprising a thin copper alloy sheet loosely fitting within the larger, thicker locket base. The thin sheet is badly damaged, missing the original edges, and the surface is covered in corrosion. An engraved love heart enclosing letters W&H above letters CO preserves in the centre on one side. This indicates the locket was manufactured by Wightman & Hough Co. (W & H CO), established in AD 1856 …

The front of the object is decorated in a stamped armorial decoration of the royal shield with traces of the legend [HONI SOIT] QUI MAL [Y PEN]SE which translates to ‘May he be shamed who thinks badly of it’. This was the motto of the British chivalric Order of the Garter (founded in AD 1438). Much of the surface has been lost to old damage and erosion, but the detail was clearly fine and traces of black enamel preserve in th…

Copper alloy anthropomorphic mount of uncertain date, possibly Roman
The oval domed mount depicts a human head and appears to be near-complete but is now heavily corroded (with a length of 22.3mm, a width of 17.3mm, an overall depth of 13.2mm and a weight of 7.3g). The corrosion has removed much of the facial features although what remains is finely and carefully worked. The hair remains clear, defined by curvilinear grooved lines above and to the side of the brow. At the base of the brow a delicate groove appears to depict the eye brow and is above oval depressions with a raise…
