Decorative gold ring is of part-hollow construction, with a hexagonal bezel set with a small uncut (cabochon) blue sapphire which is now in two fragments. The hoop broadens at the shoulders (the hollow element), where there is a low ridge either side of the bezel. This part of the hoop has a flattened triangular cross-section; the lower part of the hoop is misshapen. Gold mourning ring with stylized skull on outside of hoop. The hoop, which is misshapen, is of flattened D cross-section. The inner face of the hoop is inscribed with the text A. E. obijt 30 Jan' 17034, in italic script (A. E. died 30th January 1703/4). Internal hoop diameter 20.07 mm x 12.7mm; band width 4mm; band thickness 1.1mm; weight 3.34g. The ring has not undergone any cleaning or conservation.
