Description The reported object is a silver gilt devotional reliquary pendant (weight 17.613g.). It is of rounded arch niche form, with one hinged door. This has been made with the hinge on the right, and was opened by removing a pin which slides through retaining tubes on the left side of the pendant. A silver brooch, fashioned from a groat (fourpenny piece) of King Edward I, 1272-1307. The coin brooch takes the form of a disc brooch, diameter 29mm. On the reverse, the side visible when worn, are five collets - one central, the others evenly spaced round the rim, at 12 o'clock, etc, as viewed, in varying states of preservation; these presumably originally held glass, enamel or coloured stones, though none survives and no remains of adhesive material have been detected. Copper alloy outer case for a set of nested weights. Circular, with six external vertical ribs on cup and similar projections (poorly preserved) on lid. Maximum external diameter 40mm; internal diameter 36mm; internal depth of cup 17mm; maximum height 24mm. In its present condition (with corrosion around lid) it weighs 96.07g. There is ring-and-dot decoration around the rim top, and it is likely that the missing weights were similarly decorated. Probably fourteenth century in date.

Cast copper alloy vessel foot. The foot has a rib on its external surface and tapers to a rounded point. The upper part of the casting is missing. Vessel feet are not uncommon detector finds (Bailey 1997, 36). Although examples which terminate in turned-out bases or paws are the most common type, examples with rounded tips are not unknown. Surviving length 79mm, max width (surviving) 35mm, max surviving thickness 16mm. Fifteenth to seventeenth century probably [i.e. Late Medieval - Early Post-Medieval]. Enamelled, shield-shaped horse harness pendant. Type I (Ward Perkins 1940, 118, fig.38). The pendant is cast in copper alloy (probably bronze) with an integral suspension loop, which is now slightly twisted. It is decorated with a heraldic device of a lion rampant possibly with a double tail on a background of blue enamel. Although ancient enamels can change their colour as a consequence of burial, microscopic study shows that blue was the enamels original colour. Probably part of a cast copper alloy strap-type box mount. The mount is cast in copper alloy (probably bronze) with a central perforation and what appears to be a tapering terminal or knop but is where the mount has been broken. It is gilded on its upper surface and decorated with four probably white glass, rather than pearl, beads inset into the four corners of the main plate. Pot mend of a steeply sided vessel, crudely cast. Unusual metal type - microscopic examination suggests that it is a heavily leaded copper alloy which may have a tinned surface. Most pot mends are made from straight lead alloys and that this example has been made from a leaded copper alloy suggests that it may be a mend for a copper alloy vessel rather than a ceramic pot. Close dating is not possible but a medieval or post-medieval date is most likely. Dimensions 100m x 44mm x 4-8mm.

There is considerable wear or corrosion around the edges of the seal resulting in incomplete letter forms. Dimensions 28 x 15.2mm. Fragment of a cast lead alloy (pewter) pot leg from a vessel such as a skillet, ewer or cauldron. The lower part of the leg and a central ridge survive. Pot legs of this type were used during the medieval and post-medieval periods; however, a close parallel, albeit cast in copper alloy, is provided by pot legs recovered from early sixteenth century deposits in Norwich (Margeson 1993, 93, no.565, fig.58). Length (minimum) 33mm, width 22mm, weight 23.0 grams.

Copper alloy quatrefoil mount which was fixed by four rivets, one set in each corner of the mount. Two of the separately cast copper alloy rivets remain intact. The surface of the mount is quite corroded and only traces of the presumably heraldic enamel design which was applied to it survive. The design apparently consisted of a passant lion on a coloured background which extended to the edges of the mount. Incomplete papal bulla, probably dating to the 13th century. The bulla has broken along the centre, at the point where the cord passed through. Perforated whetstone of rectangular cross-section, made of a fine-grained siltstone. The stone tapers gently to the flat end. The top of the whetstone has been damaged and is irregular. Relatively slight, complete but damaged forged iron woodman's axehead. The axehead has a crescentic cutting edge, possibly worn at the top of the blade edge. The axe blade diverges to the cutting edge. The shaft-hole would have been tear shaped, but is now torn and distorted on one side. The rear of the axehead has a flat rectangular platform, which would have been used as a hammer.
