Description and identification Two halves of a decorated silver annular brooch frame. It is misshapen, with each part forming an elongated ‘U’ shape, which was once likely circular. The level of distortion obscures the form of the decoration on each ‘face’. The silver object is a flattened fragment of penannular arm-ring of Hiberno-Viking type, now in two conjoining pieces. It has the form of a broad flat band of silver of rectangular cross-section, and in plan. Description The reported object is a silver chape from a scabbard of a narrow-bladed weapon. It is formed of thin sheet metal, bent into a narrow tubular profile which tapers to a rounded tip. There is a vertical seam along one edge, which has split almost the entire length of the chape. The object is a silver bodkin-type dress-pin with slot and perforation (eye) at one end, and tapering to a point at the other end. The shaft has a flattened quadrangular cross-section with bevelled edges, and is undecorated. On one face, below the slot, is a stamped hallmark .W. The pin is bent, and has not received any conservation. Length overall 109.2mm; maximum width 3.8mm; maximum thickness 2mm; weight 6.47g. The object is a small silver annular brooch with niello decoration on both sides of the frame, which is circular in cross-section. Silver gilt dress-hook with a lozenge-shaped back-plate cut from a sheet and cusped around the edge, to which (on the reverse) a separate hook and bar loop have been soldered. Attached to the front of the plate by solder is a hollow, lozenge-shaped silver gilt box with chamfered sides. The top is decorated with four single-strand 'rope-twist' filigree wire circlets, arranged around hollow hemispherical bosses, and small granulated pellets. Similar decoration occurs on the bevels.
