Decorative cast copper alloy handle mount from the butt end of a flintlock pistol dating to the 18th or early 19th century. This is a mount to fit over the bottom and front of the wooden handle of a flintlock pistol. The mount is simply decorated with a concentric series of four mouldings on the butt end. The flaring snout is rounded with a small ring and dot design for the nostrils, with the dot placed at the lower point of the ring, and an incised line near the base of the mount representing the mouth. The eyes are circular rather than lentoid, and prot…

A Roman copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 4.f. flat wing ends type), dating from 250-420 AD. The brooch is near complete, missing only the pin and the corroded catch-plate. The brooch employed a spring mechanism, secured by a Polden Hill claw type device. The pin appears to have broken in antiquity and was repaired by crudely wrapping a piece of copper alloy wire around the axis bar. The short wings have expanded ends and the copper alloy axis bar protrudes from the end of one of the wings. The bow is more straight than ‘do…
