A complete or near complete copper alloy Late La Tène (Type III) brooch of Iron Age date (c.50 BC to 50 AD). Probably Nauheim derivative type. The spring consists of four coils, two either side of the top of the bow and joined by an internal chord. The two pin side coils are slightly larger and project higher than the other half of the spring. The pin is bent and missing the majority of its length. The very head of bow has shoulders, where the metal constricts to form the spring. The bow is sharply curved, and a flattened plano-convex in cross section, having a slightly convex o…

An incomplete copper alloy ‘miniature’ arched terret of Iron Age or Early Roman date (c. 100 BC-AD 200). The object consists of a fragment of the ring (4.5mm wide, 3.7mm thick) terminating in old breaks on each end. The top surface of the ring is decorated with moulded ridge spanning the surviving length. A moulded decorative motif sits atop the terret ring in the shape of two sweeping archways each terminating in knobs or ‘wings’ (6.7mm), with a rounded central knob (10.1mm wide). The central knob is sub-oval in plan and is flanked by mouldings that run to the …

Iron Age copper alloy openwork mount probably from a harness and of 1st century BC to 1st century AD date The circular cast mount appears to be near-complete but eroded and is now in two fragments (with a diameter of 50mm and a weight of 24.7g). The outside frame is of circular to oval section and appears worn, possibly from straps. The outside frame is interrupted with a short gap (of 7mm) between two pointed terminals and is likely to have occurred because of excessive wear. Two other arear of the outside frame appear to be heavily worn. The interior of the frame is of rectangu…

Iron Age copper alloy enamelled fragment, probably from a terret with triple projections of 1st – early 2nd century AD date. The probable terret was cast and is fragmentary with a section of hoop and a single projection of an oval enamelled setting remaining (with a surviving length of 27.0mm and a weight of 7.1g). The hoop is oval sectioned and widens slightly towards the projection (with a width of 5.9mm – 7.7mm and a thickness of 3.4mm – 4.1mm). The interior of the hoop has heavy wear facets and if the curve was regular, suggests a diameter of approximately 4…

The object is 17mm in diameter from the top of the hoop to the attachment bar and 18.2mm in diameter across the hoop. The object is covered by a smooth brown-green patina, which is missing from about a third of the…

An incomplete copper alloy transverse wing terret, probably of a triple projections type (Lewis 2015). It was likely originally D shaped in plan but at least half of the ring is missing. The fragment is distorted towards the top giving a distorted surviving length of (74.2). The surviving wings project externally and are ovoid in cross section, the larger being (29.1) in diameter and the smaller (15.3). The breaks are old. There is some active corrosion on the ends of wings and the larger broken end of the ring. The ring is circular from a transverse view (with a maximum surviving dia…
