Object type: PENDANT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Flint pendant of possible Prehistoric date, though a more Modern date cannot be ruled out. The pendant is a drop-shaped nodule of flint with a perforation of diameter 4.14mm at the rounded end. The perforation appears to have been drilled through the flint, though some chipping is apparent around the edges of the perforation on one face. One face of the pendant is relatively flat while the other has a vertical medial ridge with faces rising to join it. The flint has only been roughly knapped on this latter face.

Object type: SLAG
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Darlington
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
The object is a piece of slag of uncertain date. More specifically, this object is tap slag; it was formed during the smelting process when it became necessary to empty the furnace to keep the channels clear. This slag was removed by tapping the furnace, causing it to run out from a hole at the base of the furnace while it was hot. This forms the characteristic ropey-looking surface. The material is dark grey and dense. There are inclusions showing iron corrosion in the base of the object. Though it is not possible to date this object, it was recorded due its proximity to Dere St…

A cast copper-alloy wedge of unknown date. The wedge has a blunted edge at one end, and a rounded head at the opposite end. The rounded head appears to have attained this shape by repeated hammering. Just inside the head is the corroded remains of an iron collar, which appears to have been set into an inset groove 12mm in width and at least 1mm in depth, a small section of which is visible on one face. The object has an uneven surface, with some pitting on one face. However the patina is generally even. One of the broad faces of the wedge may be decorated with three incised…
