A complete probable lead weight or plumb of uncertain date. The lead is conical with a flat base and rounded tip with a small circular dimple. The object has a stippled, cream patina with signs of wear. Dimensions: Length 46.3mm, Diameter 11.2mm, Weight 30.80g. Lead weights are difficult to date when found as stray finds as they are used for long periods of time however similar weights on the database include ESS-EB2B97, WILT-BB2605 and SWYOR-24A123. The latter two, however, unlike the present example have a hollow core.

A complete cast lead weight of a Roman to post-medieval date. The object is a rectangular block that measures 10.5x10x9mm and weighs 9.9g. Three faces have an incised design, two with a zig-zag pattern, the other with square grids. It is unclear whether the other faces were also decorated and it has since worn away. No clear comparisons have so far been discovered. Biggs and Withers (2000) discuss two unclassified weights have some similarities to this object - a rectangular block with incised vertical lines (p.68 no.276) and an octagon with an octagonal design (p.69 no.283)…

A folded lead-alloy strip of uncertain date. The strip has a rectangular section and has been folded several times along its length. Crimping marks are visible on the outside surface. The metal has a darkish patina, more metallic in places where the surface has been worn. Rolled and folded lead strips have been used as Roman curse tablets. However, compared to others in the database (e.g. YORKM-E10746, NLM-92F452) this piece is smaller and has been deliberately more tightly folded. This suggests that it is probably some kind of lead weight or ingot.

A conical, tapering lead object with a central iron part that is now only present as a rust shaped discolouration at the tip of the cone, probably the remains of a suspension point. The base of the object is flat with some small possible drill/adjustment holes and the sides are marked with numerous incisions, which are probably the result of plough and soil damage.

Copper alloy object, possibly a weight. A late Early-Medieval copper alloy barrel-shaped weight. The object is globular, solid, and has a slightly flattened surface at opposing ends, which allow it to sit still without rolling. There is a circular mark at these two ends, one of which is of a white colour. The ends of the object are decorated, in one case with a circular line around the centre circle, and, in the other, with a thin, petal-like design extending around the centre circle. The rest of the object is decorated with shapes in relief; a larger shape (possibly a …

A complete lead weight. The weight is circular in plan with a diameter of 55mm and is 14mm thick. One face has an "I" scored into it quite deeply, a symbol resembling a 'W' with detached centre is scored above that but more shallowly, and a radiate-type crown with four points above that, also shallowly scored. These may all be part of one symbol resembling a heavily stypised eye. The reverse has no visible decoration. Biggs and Withers' catalogue of the David Rogers Collection (2000) lists many weights resembling this one, with Roman numerals of varying denominations, as Roman, due…

It is an off-white colour, mottled with patches of brown and has an irregular surface being extensively gouged and pitted. There is a gash evident partway across the wide end, which maybe the result of plough damage. It weighs 183.9gms, with a diameter of 34mm at the wide end, is 30mm in height and the suspension hole has a diameter of 5mm Weights can be hard to date; due to being a functional artefact, …
