A small cast lead weight containing a copper-alloy Styca, of Aethelred II, (c.840-858AD). The reverse of the coin reads EDILRED REX, placing it in Pirie's Phase C which can be either first or second reign. Due to the good condition of the coin it is likely that it was not very old when pressed into the lead. It probably dates from the mid-late 9th century. Similar examples of coins embedded in weights on the database are LIN-3DFD27 YORYM-8054B2. Similar examples can be found on p19, Biggs and Withers, (2000).

Triangular lead weight from the 14/15th century.
The front face has a lion passant in relief- although the weight needs to be turned 90 degrees to the right for the design to be correct. The back of the weight is flat.
There is a circular hole all the way through the weight from front to back. The hole is larger at the back and smaller and more irregular on the front. This would have been used for suspension.
Similar examples can be seen from excavations in London (Egan; 1998; 320/1).
