The handle terminates with a collared circular suspension loop, which terminates itself with a small knop. The handle is sub-oval in cross-section and tapers down and outwards towards the die. An incomplete cast copper-alloy Roman Colchester derivative hinged brooch dating to c. AD 43-120.  The brooch has tubular wings enclosing an axis bar, with a slot in the centre for the pin.
