A complete, copper alloy, cast, Anglo-Scandinavian horse harness link used at the time of the Norman Conquest. A plano-convex cross-section bar, a bevelled sub-lozenge shaped terminal with sub-oval aperture at each end with a rounded knop at each end and both sides. There is a central convex roundel also with three similar rounded knops - one off-centre and one either side. Plain back. Some wear, otherwise a matt green/brown slightly irregular corroded surface. Bulb of percussion with large platform-formed by a hard hammer and some force with feint conchoidal ripple marks and a prominent stepped distal hinge fracture. There are two main flake beds on the dorsal surface with negative ripples. There are a number of relatively recent edge chips due to agricultural machinery damage rather than retouch.
