Obverse: small moustached Woden face centrally with beaded outline surrounded by six bosses comprising pellets in annulets with a cross pommee below. An incomplete Early Medieval cast copper alloy ball-headed pin head, 8th-9th century. Solid sub-spherical head decorated with five spherical bosses. one at the top and four equally-spaced around the middle. The majority of the pin is missing,with just a short stump of 2.56mm remaining Mid brown-green patina. Length 20.67mm, diameter of head (without bosses) 10.71mm, maximum width of head (including bosses) 19.29mm, weight 6.77g. There appear to be just two other Saxon pin heads of this solid ball-headed type on the PAS database:- DENO-3A4A54. NMS-3DDAA3

A cast copper alloy terminal or head from a staff of later early medieval or Norman date (AD 1000 -1200). The staff terminal is broadly sub-spherical in plan and profile being cast as a single piece. From the base of the lower half of the staff head a cylindrical / tubular socket extends. The head of the staff is decorated with a cast pierced pattern of lattice like openwork ornamented with projecting knop like bosses. The strap end is near complete having only lost a small part of the riveted plate through abrasion which has feathered the edge. The strap end is a broadly rectangular (tongue shaped) form with a rounded base and off-set riveted attachment plate. An incomplete cast copper alloy strap fitting bridle bit link of Early Medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) date (1000-1200). The strap fitting is irregular in plan and D shaped in cross section. It consists of two oval links - both broken - conjoined by a solid cast bar. The breaks are old and patinated. A thickened collar is present along one edge.
