A complete silver cut half short cross penny of uncertain date - most probably King John 1199 - 1216. The coin is semi-circular in plan. On the obverse, part of the monarch's head and part of the legend is visible. It reads: [H]ENRIC[VS REX]. Some decoration and legend is just about visible on the reverse of the coin, which bears an outer ring of legend, an inner border and part of a short cross and pellet motif in the centre. Incomplete medieval coin of John (1199-1216). The coin is extremely worn with much of the inscriptions on both obverse and reverse as well as the crown near impossible to see, and with a section missing as well, identification is challenging. The coin is suspected to be Wren Class 5a (most likely 5a1), which dates it 1204-1209. From what is left of the reverse inscription, it most likely that the coin was struck by Nicole at the mint of Canterbury. The coin has a diameter of 18.24mm and weighs 1.17g.
