A complete silver cut half short cross penny of uncertain date - most probably King John 1199 - 1216. The coin is semi-circular in plan. On the obverse, part of the monarch's head and part of the legend is visible. It reads: [H]ENRIC[VS REX]. Some decoration and legend is just about visible on the reverse of the coin, which bears an outer ring of legend, an inner border and part of a short cross and pellet motif in the centre. The coin has been cut and is slightly clipped. It is silver in colour, with a dark/black-ish patina. It is worn all over. The coin measures: Width: 8.9mm; Di…

A silver short cross penny of John, most probably class V (class 5) struck by the moneyer Adam at the mint in Winchester between AD 1204 - 1207. It is possible that the coin is actually of Class 6 as the form of x in REX is more commonly on these coins. Also noteworthy is the square shaped punched hole positioned at 8 o'clock on the field. The hole has been made from obverse through to reverse. The positionoing of the hole does not suggest the coin was holed to enable it to be worn as a pendant / jewellery.

Incomplete medieval coin of John (1199-1216). The coin is extremely worn with much of the inscriptions on both obverse and reverse as well as the crown near impossible to see, and with a section missing as well, identification is challenging. The coin is suspected to be Wren Class 5a (most likely 5a1), which dates it 1204-1209. From what is left of the reverse inscription, it most likely that the coin was struck by Nicole at the mint of Canterbury. The coin has a diameter of 18.24mm and weighs 1.17g.

Silver cut half penny probably of King John struck by the moneyer Iohan (Johan) at an uncertain mint - most probably Canterbury but this part of the coin is cut away. From the look and feel of the lettering and portrait this coin is likely to belong to Short Cross Class 5 - struck between 1204-1207 - this is one of the most common classes and Canterbury is also a prolific mint at this time.

A heavily worn silver short cross penny which has been torn rather than deliberately cut. The coin is struck in London most likely to be from the reign of King John (AD 1199-1216). The reason for this is based on the style of the hair (being pellet within curl / crescent) and the form of the E which is stylistically similar to that seen in Class 5b - 6a. This refines the date to the period AD 1204-1217.
