An incomplete, copper alloy Roman Colchester Derivative brooch of the Polden Hill type, dating from AD 80-120. The axis bar, spring, pin, foot, catch plate, and most of the wing caps are missing. The head of the brooch is 20.8mm wide, including the wings which are semi-cylindrical in shape. The caps at the end of the wings which would have held the spring and coil in place are missing. An incomplete and abraded cast copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative style Polden Hill (dolphin) brooch dating to c.AD 80-120. The wings are short and tubular with a semi-circular cross section, the end caps are pierced and would have held an axis bar, now lost. The back of the head is open revealing a wide and deep socket where the spring mechanism would have once sat. A fragment from the lower bow and foot of a cast copper alloy brooch most probably of Roman date (AD50-350). The alloy of the metal is relatively unusual seeming to be heavily leaded creating a very grey coloured alloy. The form of the brooch comprises an angular bow which has transverse ribs terminating in a large moulded D shaped bead from which an oval shaped foot descends. The head of the brooch is incomplete as the sides are lost through erosion; this has resulted in the loss of the spring fixing mechanism. An integrally cast head plate extends from the upper edge of the head - the upper edge is rolled back to form an eroded hook and a circular hole pierces it at the centre. An iron pin from a Roman brooch. The pin is cylindrical in shape tapering from a wide pierced head too a tapering point. The head of the pin seems to have been deliberately flattened and pierced. It has broken across the pierced hole. The artefact is a mid grey brown colour with a corroded mid brown colour. A direct parallel has not been found and the pin was recovered from an area which has exclusively been of Roman date. The pin measures 53.6mm length, 2.7mm width and is 2.5mm thick; it weighs 1.43 grams.

A very small and heavily eroded copper alloy artefact which was probably once a polden hill type brooch of Roman date (AD 75 -120). The fragment is broadly triangular in plan and consists of a heavily abraded part of the head which includes one wing and the upper bow. On the reverse face a distinct U shaped depression can be seen which is very similar to the spring casing seen on polden hill brooches.
