A near complete copper alloy Roman Trumpet brooch dating from 75 - 175AD. The bow of the brooch has an angular profile and an angular D shaped cross section. The bow tapers from a flared head to an eroded point above the now missing foot knop. The head of the brooch is oval in plan, and tapers into the bow; its edges are heavily eroded. The reverse of the head is concave and has a cast projecting bar which divides the head into two parts. An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester Derivative, Polden Hill brooch (Mackreth Group 4, flat wing ends), of Roman date (80-120 AD). The wings are semi-cylindrical with near complete perforated wing / end caps. The axis bar, spring and pin are lost; the spring would have attached by an external loop which is attached to a rearward facing hook located at the centre of the wings on the upper edge. Incomplete cast copper alloy one piece Colchester brooch of very late Iron Age to Early Roman date (25-80 AD). The head of the brooch is relatively small and two small stumpy wings extend from either edge. The wings are short and solid with a semi-cylindrical solid D shaped cross section. The spring is formed from a coiled length of copper alloy wire which has been integrally cast with the body of the brooch. A complete cast copper alloy headstud bow brooch of Roman date (100-200AD). The brooch has been deliberately bent at the mid-point most probably pre deposition. The bow wings are complete and stub-like being cylindrical in plan with closed pierced ends through which an axis bar passes. The axis bar is enclosed by a copper alloy sheet cover. A fragment from the bow of a copper alloy Roman Trumpet brooch dating from 45 - 200AD. The fragment is sub-oval in plan and D shaped in cross section. It has a series of three cast sub circular (D-shaped) mouldings along the length. The central of these is relatively large and projects further than the others. The reverse of the fragment is flat and undecorated. The fragment measures 25.2mm in length, 6.8mm width, and is 5.9mm thick. It weighs 2.74 grams.
