A clipped post medieval silver shilling of James I (1603 - 1625). Second Coinage (1604 - 1619). Initial Mark: Escallop. Mint of London. The coin has been overstruck on the obverse and reverse which has obscured the legend and duplicated the bust and shield. The coin has been initially struck at 10 o'clock then rotated and overstruck. Obverse legend should read: IACOBVS D G MAG BRIT FRAN ET HIB REX. Reverse legend should read: QVAE DEVS CONIVNXIT NEMO SEPARET. North, no. 2100.

A silver shilling of James I (1603-1625) which is heavily worn and clipped to the size of a sixpence. The inscription and external edges of teh coins have been completely removed and the bust on the obverse is heavily worn. Based on the form of the shield on the reverse the coin is most likely to be from th efirst or second issues (1603-1619). The clipping of the coin is often observed in material from the civil war and interregnum (commonwealth).
