Silver halfgroat of Charles I, Initial Mark: Portcullis 1633-1634 AD. There is a crecent shaped hole / punched hole beneath the C of CAROLVS and on the reverse a small circular hole - suggesting the hole is made from the obverse face to the reverse face. There seems to be no reason in punching the hole as the coin does not seem to be aligned for suspension North: 2255

Silver Halfgroat of Charles I; Initial Mark: sun 1645-1646 AD. The coin has been double struck and therefore the detail is not clear and crisp but instead has elements of the inscripition repeated. The coin has a white powdery surface patina - often seen on silver objects derived from clay soil conditions. The coin is delicate and surface friable North: 2258

Silver half-groat of Charles I struck at the Exeter mint in 1644. The coin has been pierced from the obverse through to the reverse with a square punch. The piecing is positioned at 8 o'clock on the obverse; it is possible the reverse was meant to be seen although the central large rose would be slightly a-tilt when the hole is aligned at 12 o'clock North 2582 Seaby Spink: 3091

Silver half groat of Charles I, probabkly Group D Initial Mark Tun (1636-8). This coin is interesting in that it is broken into 4 parts, when found the coin was broken into 3, two small quarters which were enclosed by the larger half being folded around them. On opening by the finder this larger part broke into two parts along an old crack. The act of folding has preserved the obverse face which has hardly any wear. The reverse on the folded part is heavily worn and pitted.

Silver Scottish twenty pence of Charles I, Third Coinage 1637-1642 AD. The coin is a yellowish colour, although as this is uniform on both faces it is likely to be a natural effect due to burial conditions. This coin has not been gilt. Seaby: 5581
