Silver penny probably of Edward IV either struck in Durham or Ireland. The coin is heavily worn and most of the details and all the inscription has been lost. Probably Class IV 1461-1465. The coin has been pierced in the upper left hand corner of the obverse (at 10 o'clock on the coin). This hole has been worn and is oval in shape. Thanks are extended to Laura Burnett for help identifying this very worn coin.

Description: Incomplete silver-gilt dress fastener or dress hook. The plate of the dress fastener is trifoliate in plan with a circular protruding boss in the centre of each lobe. Each boss is encircled by rope-like filigree decoration and projecting knops. Originally at the centre of the fastener, between the three bosses, would have been another element; probably a form of flower head projection which has since been lost. A small fragment of the pin / clip which held it in place has survived (but is loose / detached from the fastener). The outer edge of the back plate is decorated…

Pierced penny of Charles I, Mint London, post 1627. The coin is heavily worn and belongs to Group B-G. It is also pierced from obverse - reverse and the edges of the hole are not trimmed. The coin is mostl likely to be pierced for suspension so that it can be worn, these are often thought to be badges of loyalty during the civil war.

Silver half groat of Charles I, probabkly Group D Initial Mark Tun (1636-8). This coin is interesting in that it is broken into 4 parts, when found the coin was broken into 3, two small quarters which were enclosed by the larger half being folded around them. On opening by the finder this larger part broke into two parts along an old crack. The act of folding has preserved the obverse face which has hardly any wear. The reverse on the folded part is heavily worn and pitted.

Silver struck Irish penny of Edward I. Unfortuantely a crease / wear at the centre of the coin obscures the diagnostic element. It is most likely to be of Group IV 1297-1302 struck in Dublin. Seaby: 6253
