A thin, incomplete, unidentified silver component. The item is semi-circular in plan, and retangular in cross section. It appears to be incomplete, with clean and linear break points on the two ends of the circular frame suggesting it has been cut, perhaps before it was intended to be melted down. On what is presumably the front facing surface of the component, there are two parrallel grooves which run along the circumference of the inside edge. The depth of the grooves is not uniform and at points the recesses are too faint to be visible. This may be the result of wear. The…

A pierced silver half groat or possibly a penny of Charles I - the exterior is slightly clipped and so the type is difficult to date more closely - it is likely to have been struck after 1630 and may date from the period 1642-4. A heavily worn and very polished medieval penny of Edward I (1272-1307). The mint and coin sub-type cannot be identified due to the polished condition which seems deliberate and contemporary with loss. Such augmentation might suggest that this coin was a touch piece or significant for some reason - now lost. From what remains of the bust a date in the period 1301-1310 can be suggested due to the bi-foliate type of crown. A heavily worn polished and clipped milled silver coin - most probably a sixpence of William I (1694-1702). The edges of the coin have been folded in three places and due to this folding and the polished nature of the coin it is suggested that this may represent a love token.

Silver cut half penny of Plantagenant King (Henry II - Henry III), struck in Canterbury by an unknown moneyer. The coin is heavily worn and difficult to interpret, (it being cut in half doesn't help) the lettering within the inscription is crude and very widely spaced and irregular. There is one diagnostic letter: A which seems best to correspond with Class 7b (Henry III) dated 1222-1236. This A is very square or blocky in shape with a lentoid bar and clear serrifs on the uprights. Class 7b is also noted for being very coarse in style and inscription

Silver cut half penny of Henry III, struck in Canterbury by the moneyer Nic(h)ole. The coin is most probably best classified as Class 3 a or Class 3b ; struck between 1248-1250 AD. This is due to the spacing of the inscription on the obverse and the ligature of NR of HENRICVS rather than ENR (more prevalant in class 3c). Nic(hole) strikes coins at Canterbury between Class 1b and 3c ( 1247-1250 AD)

The coin also seems to have been bitten in several places with series of rectangular impressions (most likely from teeth) present. Silver half groat of Charles I, probabkly Group D Initial Mark Tun (1636-8). This coin is interesting in that it is broken into 4 parts, when found the coin was broken into 3, two small quarters which were enclosed by the larger half being folded around them. On opening by the finder this larger part broke into two parts along an old crack. The act of folding has preserved the obverse face which has hardly any wear. The reverse on the folded part is heavily worn and pitted.
