Silver medieval cut long cross penny of Henry III. Moneyer: Ion (Jon) Mint: Bury St Edmunds. Due to the nature of the cut penny a sub type / class is difficult to identify. However, I feel that this should be best described as a penny of Class IIIa (or possibly Class II) which is dated 1248-50 AD. The reasons for the claisification is the lack of lines on the side of the head indictating a neck, the positioning of the inscription which is rather spread suggesting the Class III which reads HENRICVS REX III, rather than that of class II, HENRICVS REX TERCI. Silver Penny of Edward I struck at Kingston upon Hull between 1299 and 1301. The coin is relatively heavy for an Edwardian Sterling and has been double struck. The style of the crown suggests Class 9b2 according to Withers which is a further subdivision of the North class 9b (1037/1).

It is similar to Hobbs 2520-21 South Eastern Silver Unit - although this identification is uncertain. Images have been sent to the CCI and curators at the BM to help dentify this coin further
