Incomplete silver penny of Edward I, Mint London, Class 2b January - May 1280. The penny has been reused to form a brooch with a small silver loop being soldered to the obverse face. It has been applied in such a way that the cross on the reverse is vertical. It is possible that the front face has also been gilt (although this may be a result of the burial conditions). The lower part of thE coin has been lost - probably as a result of movement in the soil.

Much clipped contemporary copy (possibly from a continental source) of a silver short cross penny of King John, Class Va. The reasons that this may be a forgery is the very large and atypical coarse portrait on the obverse and the combination of moneyer and mint on the reverse. There is not a moneyer whose initials start WA[...]E at the mint at Exeter ([E]X on reverse of coin). It is therefore suggested that this coin is a contemporary forgery and formed from elements taken from several coins of the period.

Silver Shilling of Charles I initial Mark (probably) P within Circle dated 1643-1644. Bust type 6, North Group F. The coin looks as if it has been burnt (although this may be due to the burial conditions) and a large amount of purple brown corrosion is present on both faces of the coin.

Silver half groat of the English Commonwealth 1649-1660. The coin has been pierced in the upper left hand (about 11 o’clock) presumably so that it could be suspended or worn. The edges of the coin have been heavily clipped.

Silver Brabant Long Cross single-lion sterling, 'Walt' type (Class 1c) - Mayhew 1983, page 13. These 'brabantini' date to the 1270s and 1280's (during the reign of King John) and preceed the common sterling imitations contemporary with the reign of Edward I.
Sincere thanks are extended to Dr. Dot Boughton and Mr. Robert Webley for their identification and comments.

Heavily worn and abraded silver coin from the later Tudor period - probably the reign of Elizabeth I. Much of the diagnostic information is lost, the inscription suggests an Elizabethan date, as does the remnant of the square shield. From the size of the coin I suggest it is probably a silver threepence.
