A silver short cross penny of John, most probably class V (class 5) struck by the moneyer Adam at the mint in Winchester between AD 1204 - 1207. It is possible that the coin is actually of Class 6 as the form of x in REX is more commonly on these coins. Also noteworthy is the square shaped punched hole positioned at 8 o'clock on the field. The hole has been made from obverse through to reverse. The positionoing of the hole does not suggest the coin was holed to enable it to be worn as a pendant / jewellery.
