A very heavily worn silver halfgroat of Elizabeth I (1558-1603) the obverse and reverse are heavily polished - under raking light and magnification the remains of a long cross fourchee over a royal shield can be seen.

The reverse has the conjoined shields of St. George and Ireland with the mark of value above. The coin is worn and has been pierced at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock on the obverse. The hole at 3 o'clock has been damaged and a small fragment of the coin has been lost. Mint of London. North 2728.

The obverse shows the left facing crowned bust of Charles I, with II in the right field, indicating the coin's denomination. The obverse bears the legend: CAROLVS DG:M:B:F:E:TH:REX.[mint mark indiscerable/ weakly struck]. On the revserse the legend reads: IVSTITIA.THRONVM.FIRMAT (Justice strengthens the throne).
