A cast lead or lead alloy spindle whorl of Roman to Post Medieval date (1 - 1650 AD), most probably later medieval (1150-1600AD). The spindle whorl broadly circular in plan with a D shaped cross section. The central hole is circular and has been cast / set off centre; it measures 9.1mm. The upper surfaces is decorated with a low cast series of ribs around the external edge; the lower surface is undecorated and the whorl has a mid grey colour. Spindle whorls are used for a long period of time and as such are very difficult to date precisely without other evidence (such as pottery). …

An unidentified and undated fragment of cast copper alloy. It is likely that this artefact has some age - but due to corrosion and damage in the plough soil it is difficult to suggest what this may be. In plan it is broadly sub-rectangular and is rectangular in cross section. One edge is raised / cast with a lip and a cast ridge runs down the upper / interior face. The metal is a mid green grey colour with a pitted and abraded surface patina. The metal is very similar to that seen in medieval cooking vessels. An incomplete cast copper alloy hinged spur of probably post medieval (1600-1800) date. The fragment consists of the two arms and the spur / rowel box. The rowel is missing although a large amount of iron corrosion is present at the rear of the spur, suggesting that the rowel was made of iron and been lost due to corrosion.
