A silver sixpence dating to the reign of Elizabeth I. The upper left quarter of the coin has been pierced resulting in a small, non-circular hole. Obverse: Heavily worn. The center of the coin is well worn and Elizabeth’s crowned profile and rose behind her head is partially visible. The legend and flan (inner beaded circle) are less worn than the coin center and the inscription ELIZABETH’ legible (Spink, 2008, 236). Reverse: Inscription is better preserved than that of the obverse. Depicted is a shield on cross with fourchee dividing the legend. The date is 1574.

Silver sixpence of Elizabeth I. The reverse has a long cross over the royal coat of arms with above it the date 1571. Above the date would be the mint mark but in this case the coin is too worn here to identify the mark. The obverse has the queen's head facing left and a rose to the right. This side is so worn that details of the queen's portrait are hard to identify and the rose is only just visible. Complete but rather worn, especially on obverse.
