Medieval to Post Medieval (c. AD1300-1700) cast copper alloy lid from a box for a set of cup-weights. Circular, slightly dished with four notches around its edge, on one edge is projection containing a slot forming a hasp, opposite is further projection on the underside of which is a perforated lug which formed part of a hinge by which the lid was attached to the copper alloy box. On the face of the lid is a ring of small ringed dots around its edge, the central area contains groups of ringed dots arranged in cross layout. Late Medieval to Post Medieval c. AD 1450-1700, uniface, lead token or weight, one face bears, in relief, a four petalled flower-like motif made up of over-lapping arcs. The back is plain and it was cast in a single sided mould . Diameter 24.8mm, Thickness 3.3mm, Mass 100.7g.
The dating of this token is difficult but a Late Medieval or Post Medieval date is likely.
The function of these lead discs is also open to doubt. Some may been used as weights (see Egan, 2010, Fig. 232) for which a 14th century date is suggested, or had a religious role, being given to communicants either …

The dating of this token is difficult but the form of the letter suggests a Late Medieval or Post Medieval date.

The flat top of the head is surrounded by radial facets suggesting that it has been hammered to shape.Although not dated this object is of sufficient interest to be worthy of record. Post Medieval lead trade weight bearing the marks of Charles I (1625-1649) and the City of Norwich. The weight is discoidal and bears two, deep stamp impressions, one being a crowned 'CR' and the other a castle with two towers, a gate and a crenulated battlement, the arms of Norwich. Through the face of the weight are two holes, one 2.5mm in diameter set within a 6.0mm diameter raised pad, the other being rectangular, 3.5 x 1.5mm from which it tapers. Early Medieval weight made from a Roman coin, a fouth century nummus, the faces of which have been files to remove almost all of the details, only traces of the bust survive to permit identification. While it is no possible to be sure, this object could be interpreted as an Early Medieval weight as coins treated in this way have been found in association with balances in Early Medieval graves (Scull, 1990, 183-215), Diameter 15.4mm, Thicknes 1.3mm, Mass 1.89g.

Early Medieval weight, made from a Roman copper alloy coin. On one face are five deeply incised ring and dot motifs, the outer four set within 6mm diameter recessed circles, the central ring and dot is smaller and set within a 4.5mm dimeter circle. The reverse of the disc bears the traces of an Imperial bust, the large square head suggesting Nero or one of the late third or early fouth century emperors.
