Part of an Anglo-Saxon, small-long brooch of Leeds' 'Trefoil headed' type, c. AD 450-550. Cast copper alloy, three mushroom-shaped knobs projecting from head-plate, single lug on back for the attachment of a spring, now missing, as is the foot of the brooch. Incised/moulded decoration. Length 40.9mm, Width 30.6mm, Height 9.5mm.

Copper alloy Roman brooch of trumpet derivative type, first century-second century AD, worn fragment lacking its foot. In middle of the bow is a flat, rectangular plate divided into panels; wear makes interpretation difficult but there appear to have been two central rectangular recesses and two transverse panels. Fragment of a cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Polden Hill type, c. 80-120AD. The foot and spring mechanism is missing and there has been some loss of surface. A broad groove runs down the length of the bow, the lateral wings are set on raised panels, their undersides are hollowed to accommodate the coiled spring which would have been secured by a bar through the end-plates. The brooch is complete but for its pin, the bow is broad and decorated with two longitudinal ribs with two notched ribs down each side. The foot terminates in a simple button. The underside of the two wings is hollowed to accomodate the coiled spring. This is held in place by a bar which passes through holes through two plates at the ends of the wings. The underside of the wings is hollow to accomodate a coiled spring secured by an axial pin held in perforated plates at the ends of the wings. Copper alloy Roman (c. 60-150) brooch of 'Trumpet' type represented only by the loop and rosette once fixed to the head of the brooch. This consists of a 14.0mm diameter, diamond sectioned ring the ends of which taper and pass through two holes in a rectangular plate on the underside of the rosette after which they are splayed out.
