Copper-alloy pin of Roman date (c. AD 43-410).
The pin is composed of the remains of a head (possibly globular). The base of this head is still visible and appears to have been circular in section. It is approx. 4.1mm in diameter. Below the break are three evenly spaced circumferential ridges. The diameter of these ridges is 6.9mm.
Immediately below this is the shaft, which is six-sided closest to the ridges, but tapers downwards in thickness, where the edges also become softer, before becoming cylindrical at the terminal point. It is not known if this terminal is the original …

Fragment of a spherical silver gilt ball-headed pin. The remaining portion is the ball head itself, which is formed of two hemispheres joined at the centre where there are raised ridges having been soldered together. Both hemispheres are decorated with swirling filigree wire designs incorporating three large circles with three smaller circles in each. There are spherical granules at the intersections of the filigree circle designs. There is a granule at the top of the sphere, and directly opposite this, on the bottom, is a hole that the pin shaft would have initially been inserted int…

An incomplete cast silver pin with polyhedral head. The head is essentially a cuboid with the corners cut off, giving it 13 facets. The shaft is square in cross section and tapers to a thinner point toward the end. Each larger face around the side of the head contains a decorative circular indent in the centre. The top face (when viewed from above) shows a larger intended decorative diamond shape. There is no collar present below the head where it meets the pin shaft. The pin shaft is bent out of shape.
