A complete lead possible trade weight, probably of the Medieval or Post Medieval period (c. AD 1390-1700). The weight is in the form of the elongated face of a man with a beard and long moustache. There is a band of hair at the apex and all the facial features are prominent, except ears. The reverse of the weight is almost flat and is undecorated. The general naivety of the face suggests that it could have been locally produced. Possibly, the face depicts Jesus or possibly a local person known to the maker. A complete lead object, a probable weight, of unknown date (c. AD43-1700). The artefact has a flat, round, slightly concave base, with concave, tapering sides and concave apex with two projecting points which are probably broken terminals for a suspension loop. Although the object stands by itself, the sides are irregular and it leans. it has a creamish brown patina which has flaked off in places and some surface abrasion.  This object is probably a weight, with a suspension loop for a hanging on a line, possibly for fishing or other activities. Weights are notoriously difficult…

A complete lead weight for a pump seal from the Modern period (AD1800-1900). A cast sub-rectangular plate with one rounded edge with a recessed lug on one side, which would pass through a leather sheet of thickness circa 4-12mm, now mainly lost but with some fragments still around the lug,to assure a watertight seal.  Manually operated pumps were employed for engineering tasks in the Humber region from the 17th century onwards, and for drainage and agrarian purposes. This component may derive from a mechanical or motorised version of more recent date. There are ot…
