An incomplete Late Saxon copper-alloy mount dating to the early medieval period, c. AD 1000-1100. The mount is a tapering flat-sectioned bar, with a central break. The remaining central bar has parallel sides, two lobes protrude from the bar followed by two straight edges that taper inwards towards the terminal. A copper-alloy mount in the form of a lion couchant modelled in relief on the front face but flat on the rear face. The front face has a slightly melted appearance as though a blob of metal has been dropped on it, with consquent loss of some decorative detail. The front paws are placed together beneath the mouth and there is no other creature pinned down beneath them, as is normal in leonine knife handles and figurines (e.g. BH-2159D4 and SWYOR-F1D5D6). As well as having received numerous circumferential losses the edge has also been bent at one point. It was originally stud like, consisting of a broadly circular, flat head attached to a separate stem for attachment, the latter possibly of base metal. An unusual porcine fitting of the insular La Tène tradition, probably dating from the 1st century BC to 1st century AD. It is possible this fitting is for a vessel, but it is so far unparalleled in type. There are two other ‘head’ fittings known (OXON-6E3722 and HESH-06696B), but they are very different in design, and this find does not appear to be related to them. A seemingly complete, corroded cast copper-alloy mount, probably a strap fitting, dating c. AD 1400-1700. The mount is flat and quatrefoil/lozenge-shaped.  At the centre of the reverse is a short integral spike. The spike is square in cross-section and tapers evenly to a point. The front appears to have an irregular pitted pattern but this could be a design choice or from corrosion. This mount is generally worn and is mainly covered with a light green patina. Measurements: 22 mm in length, 13 mm in width and 1.00 g in weight.
