An early medieval Series D type 2c sub variety 3d early silver penny (sceat or sceatta) dating to between 690-710 AD. As Metcalf 1993: 184-190 or Abramson 2017: 65, 8-10. The obverse has a radiate crowned bust facing right with transverse A behind. The reverse has a central cross with a pellet in each angle surrounded by blundered letters. This type is thought to be a continental issue, likely minted at Domburg. An incomplete Late Saxon copper-alloy mount dating to the early medieval period, c. AD 1000-1100. The mount is a tapering flat-sectioned bar, with a central break. The remaining central bar has parallel sides, two lobes protrude from the bar followed by two straight edges that taper inwards towards the terminal. A fragment of a silver ingot of unknown date. A fraction of two original straight edges remain, they converge at a rounded corner, suggesting the original object was sub-rectangular or sub-square. The remaining perimeter of the object consists of fresh angular breaks. The material is likely silver: it is not magnetic. One surface is even and smooth showing striations in varying directions. The remains of an iron rivet are still evident with similarly sized and shaped copper-alloy frame fragments extant on both sides of where the pin would sit, being roughly rectangular in shape and cross section with a lobed half end which would have been the tops of the spacer forks.
