A flint scraper of probable Late Neolithic date, c. 3300-2400 BC. Worked from an incomplete secondary flake of opaque grey-brown flint, mottled with pale inclusions and with natural breaks at the proximal end and right edge of the dorsal face. Cortex covers c. 70% of the dorsal face, at the proximal and right sides. Along the distal and left edges, the dorsal face exhibits short, scalar, semi-abrupt retouch. Dimensions: Length: 34.4mm; Width: 26.3mm; Thickness: 8.1mm; Weight: 7.08g. Part of a small assemblage of flint found in the same area, containing an incomplete plano-conve…

Three prehistoric flint implements recovered from the same area of a field . The first item (top left of image) is a flake with retouching along a prominent bump on one of the sides. The second item (bottom left) is a flake with c.10 percent of the cortex remaining on the dorsal side. The flint is black with small pale mottles. The third item (right of image) is a scraper with retouched edges and blade removal scars visible on the dorsal surface. The flint is dark grey with small grey mottles.

A Prehistoric end scraper, dating from the Neolithic to Bronze Age period (c.4500 BC to c.800 BC). The tool has been worked from a large flake. The object is roughly rectangular in plan and D-shaped in section. The scraper end has been extensively re-touched to create a good edge. One side of the item has also been retouched; here the edge shelves at a sharper angle. The flint is opaque and honey coloured, with occasional flecks of white. Length:60mm; 40mm; Thickness; 10mm

A prehistoric flint scraper fragment. The flint is almost black in colour with grey mottles. It is very abraided and has broken away on one side. There are traces of working visible around the edge of the flint, suggesting it was intended for use as a scraper. However, the thickness and almost pyramidal shape suggest that the flint may have originally been a core, which, when no longer useful for this purpose, was modified for use as a scraper.

A Prehistoric end scraper of Neolithic to Bronze Age date (c.4000-801 BC). The flint is broadly square in plan. The cross section is almost triangular as one side is tapers significantly. Both faces are smooth and have not been knapped. Three of the edges have been squared off to give 90 degree sides, whereas the fourth side angles inwards. There is a possibility this may be a post-medieval to modern gunflint from a flintlock pistol, but the edges on gunflints tend to be more uniform and gunflints are usually trapezoidal in plan. The tapering end of this piece suggests that the scr…

A flint scraper of probable later prehistoric date, c. 3,300-800 BC. Worked from a primary flake of grey-brown flint, with cortex covering all of those areas not exhibiting retouch. Crude removals struck from the proximal end have thinned the flake, removing the bulb of percussion. Short, semi-abrupt, scalar retouch is exhibited around the perimeter of the dorsal face, with the exception of the proximal end. Dimensions: length 41.7mm; width 45.2mm; thickness 12.5mm; weight 30.26g. It is impossible to date a single undiagnostic flint with confidence, however the crude knappin…

A light grey brown flint discoidal "thumbnail" scraper of Late Neolithic- Early Bronze Age date, probably dating to c. 2700-1600 BC. There is some evidence of semi-parallel long, semi abrupt retouch, particularly on the left dorsal margin, becoming longer and larger at the proximal end before reverting to finer retouching along the right dorsal margin. The dorsal face is marked by a removal scar, wtih three clear flakes being struck from the proximal end of this face. There is a large bulb of percussion on the ventral face. There are some very small dots of a grey white patina on both…

A Late Neolithic to Bronze Age flint side scraper, probably dating to c. AD 3000-800. Made of a tertiary flake of translucent brown flint, sub-rectangualr in plan and sub-trapezoidal in cross section, with both the proximal and distal ends worked away. The proximal end has been blunted with some fairly irregular removals, struck from the ventral face. The left mesal edge and distal edge of the dorsal face have been blunted using short, abrupt, sub-parallel/scalar retouch, with the retouch to the right mesal edge being semi-abrupt and scalar/stepped, although this edge has been more hi…
