The coin has been pierced, drilled from the obverse, behind the bust, with a mark left by initial drilling to the left of this. If a halfgroat, these would be in line with the two pellets behind the bust.

Post Medieval silver 8 Reales coin dating to 1689. The 8 Real was often referred to as a 'piece of eight' and has long been popularly associated with Pirates in literature and films. This coin was minted at the famous Potosi silver mine in Bolivia, one of several New World mints set up by the Spanish. A Post-medieval copper alloy coin weight, dating to AD 1604-1619. The weight is circular in plan and flat in cross section, and is stamped bifacially. One face depicts a double arched crown surmounting XI over S. The other depicts a right facing bust with the insciption: [I R M] BRITAN. Both are within a pelleted border. Dimensions: diameter 16.5mm; thickness 2.5mm; weight 3.85g. Such coin weights correspond to the double crown of James I's second coinage, comparable examples can be seen recorded on this database, for example LEIC-B5F893.

Post-medieval silver sixpence of Elizabeth I. Interestingly, the initial marks differ between the obverse and the reverse. On the obverse is a bust of Elizabeth, facing left, with a rose at her left shoulder. The inscription reads: ELIZABETH.D.G.ANG.GRA.ET.HIB. Latin cross mint mark. On the reverse is a shield with a long cross running through it. Above the shield is the date '1579'. The inscription reads: POSVI/DEV AD/IVTORE/M MEV. Greek cross mint mark. The coin is from a London mint.
