A contemporary forgery of a post medieval coin, possibly of James I, dating to AD 1603-1627.
The coin is silvered with the greenish copper alloy core showing through. The bust is extremely worn but the inscription BVS is visible suggesting a copy of James I's coinage. It is also irregularly shaped and poorly constructed.
Measurements: 12.1mm diameter weight 0.85g.

A postmedieval silver hammered coin of James I (AD 1603 to 1625). The coin is a third issue shilling with a thistle mark, which dates the coin from AD 1621- 1623. The coin is similar to Spink reference 2669 (thistle mark) but has a reverse similar to 2668 (no plume above shield).
Note: There is no plume over the shield on the reverse of the coin; which is seen on coins with mint marks 125 - 46. As the mint mark is 125 ( a thistle) it would be expected that there would be a plume over the shield.

Postmedieval silver coin. The coin is a silver halfgroat of James I (1603- 1625). On the obverse of the coin is a rose with a large crown above, the reverse has a thistle with a large crown above. The coin has been slightly clipped around the edges; the mintmark is not clear, but it is probably a rose, which would date the coin to being minted in the years 1605- 6 or 1623-4 AD. The petals on the obverse rose are in the later style, so the coin can be dated to 1623- 1624 AD. Spink number 2659; North number 2104.

A Post-medieval copper alloy coin weight, dating to AD 1604-1619. The weight is circular in plan and flat in cross section, and is stamped bifacially. One face depicts a double arched crown surmounting XI over S. The other depicts a right facing bust with the insciption: [I R M] BRITAN. Both are within a pelleted border.
Dimensions: diameter 16.5mm; thickness 2.5mm; weight 3.85g.
Such coin weights correspond to the double crown of James I's second coinage, comparable examples can be seen recorded on this database, for example LEIC-B5F893.
