A silver groat of Edward IV which has been modified by cutting a large circular hole in the centre, probably to make a brooch. The coin is a groat of Edward IV dating to 1461-1467. Class IV-VII, Fleurs on cusps, initial mark unclear. Minted at Bristol. North (1991, 87) 1580. The coin has been modified by cutting a roughly circular hole 9mm in diameter. The angled sides and slight distortion to the coin suggests the cutting was done from the reverse. A fragment of a gold and silver medieval contemporary copy of a quarter ryal of Edward IV, first reign (1461-1470) dating from 1464-1470. Approximately 25% of the coin survives. The coin is gilded, but the interior of the coin shows through as being silver and not gold. The inscriptions are also incorrect. The coin is an attempt to copy North (1991: 86) no. 1554. 6.25mm thick, weight 1.04 g.
