An incomplete copper-alloy casing from a medieval drop-shaped weight, formerly containing a lead core. The body was once piriform, expanding to a rounded base from a point at the top. A broken loop projects from a flattened summit, above a collar of two circular concentric ridges formed by a pair of grooves. The loop only exists to one side. Around 50% of the copper-alloy casing survives, with losses at two main point one the sides, leaving a small remnant between them at the base; the lead core has been lost entirely. An incomplete plumb bob or steelyard weight of Post-Medieval to Modern date, c. AD 1750-1900. The object is biconical in shape with a circular section, with the lead body pierced by a central iron rod which is rectangular in cross section, with a rounded point at its terminal below the lead part of the weight. The surface is pitted and marked, but the central iron rod survives in good condition which argues for a more recent date. Measurements: 35.2mm length, 28.4mm diameter, weight 76.4g
