An incomplete cast copper-alloy spoon, dating to the Roman period c. AD 100-400.
The bowl is incomplete, missing most of the lower portion. It is roughly tear-drop or pear-shaped and is convexed. The base of the bowl retains only 15 mm of the stem, the majority of which is now missing. The stem has a five-sided cross-section and joins the bowl smoothly without a 'rat's tail'. The surface is mostly smooth with some pitting and has a dark brown-green patina with patches of a light green.

An incomplete early post-medieval lead-alloy spoon (c. 16th century, probably later 16th). The spoon has a pointed oval shaped bowl and a hexagonal stem; the stem terminates in a 'seal top' knop. It is now damaged, and bent, with repairs by the finder, including a sleeve that holds together the broken stem, and glue reattaching two parts of the bowl that had become separated. In addition, the bowl has been bent and has suffered losses. No marks are apparent in the bowl, or on the stem. On the reverse, at the junction of bowl and stem, is a 'rat tail'. The faceted s…

The abraded, and slightly bent, terminal of a post-medieval cast lead-alloy (pewter) spoon handle of late 17th-century date. Only this element of the flat handle remains; the rest is lost to an old break, while its own terminal is unclear due to abrasions. It is broadly trapezoidal, tapering from an expanded terminal. On the front it is decorated with a raised cast floral design: a flower, possibly a tulip, with large head and leaves emerging from a central stalk; any design below the ground on which this sits is unclear. The reverse bears initials P . L in low relief.

A fragment of a copper alloy seal top spoon dating to the post medieval period, c. AD 1550-1650.
The fragment comprises the terminal of the spoon handle, which is composed of a flattened oval terminal placed on a narrow neck, which flares to a globular shoulder, below which is a collar and elongated slender oval section. This then flares to a drop shaped wider section which narrows to the point where the spoon stem would have begun. There is a clear sign of a break here, possibly prior to deposition.
Measurements: 28.1mm length, 12.4mm width, 3.9mm thickness, weight 4.95g.

An incomplete post medieval to modern silver picture back spoon, dating to AD 1700-1900.
The surviving elements comprise the rectangular bowl and a small part of the slender stem attaching to it. On the reverse of the bowl is a floral design, composed with two possible sunflowers or other large flowers with multiple petals, with more rosettes and other more traditional smaller flowers surrounding it. They are placed in a vase which is decorated with multiple vertical stripes.
Measurements: 61.3mm length, 21.1mm width, 1.9mm thickness, weight 5.57g.

A fragment of a copper alloy Roman spoon with a mandolin-shaped bowl, dating to c. AD 43-410.
The fragment comprises part of the step and the "drop", with a tiny amount of the bowl still adhered to this lower stem. The stem itself is square in cross section, thickening steadily towards the drop, at which point it becomes flattened, curving downwards and backwards to create an arc. This gives the drop itself a "C" shape when viewed from a side angle. The fragment of the bowl adhered to this is heart shaped, and flattened with frayed edges. The bowl appears to have been broken in …

The object is a fragment of a handle for an object which remains unidentified. The handle itself is lozenge shaped at its terminal, narrowing a long the stem but retaining the same lozengiform profile. It is hollow, possibly implying that it was applied to another surface, possibly an object with a wooden handle and this decorative silver terminal. It is engraved with floral decoration on the terminal and two of the broader side panels of the lozenge, extending down the stem. The terminal decoration is composed of a four petaled flower, likely a rose, with a large central circle at its…

A fragment of a lead alloy spoon, dating to the 18th century, c. AD 1650-1720.
The fragment comprises the bowl of the spoon, which is oval in shape and shallow in depth. It is broken at the point of the attachment of the stem. Although the handle would have been applied, an impression of a rat tail is nonetheless emblazoned on the underside of the bowl. It may have appeared similar to DEV-99D795, which survives in better condition but has a different origin outside the county.

An incomplete copper alloy fiddlehead spoon, dating to the 19th century, c. AD 1800-1900.
The object comprises the handle of the spoon, which is flattened in cross section and is formed in the traditional fiddle shape, with the large rounded terminal which narrows, before flaring to a more circular bulge, before narrowing again to the spoon stem proper. The stem is sub-rectangular in section at the break. There is a suggestion of a number 4 in a copperplate hand on the terminal.

An fragment of a copper alloy spoon of post medieval date, c. AD 1600-1700.
The fragment comprises part of the bowl where it attaches to the now broken stem. The bowl would have been oval in shap, with the stem being hexagonal in cross section. There is no sin of a rat tail, the attachment of the stem is far more rounded. There is a stamp on the inner surface of the bowl which looks to be a capital D with a possible bow design above it.

An incomplete lead alloy spoon of post medieval date, c. 1600-1750.
The spoon consists of the bowl and part of the stem. The stem is cylindrical in shape, and joins the bowl with an extended "rat-tail" projection. The bowl is oval in shape but is damaged around its perimeter. It is now folded almost 180 degrees upon itself, and the stem has probably only survived as it has been protected by the bowl: the break is at precisely the point where the bowl ends.
The "rat-tail" style dates the spoon to the 17th and early 18th century. There are a number of similar examples on the d…

An incomplete copper alloy spoon of post medieval date, c. 1700-1800.
The spoon consists of the stem and much of the handle. The stem is rectangular in cross section, and flares to a broad terminal with a markedly narrowed central knop. There is an inscription on the terminal of the spoon, but the capitalised Roman letters are largely unclear except for one which appears to be an F or an E.
It is similar in form, if different in material, to the two spoons recorded as DEV-749CFF.
Measurements: 80.0mm length, 17.1mm width, 2.9mm thickness, weight 12.11g.

A fragment of a copper alloy seal top spoon dating to the post medieval period, c. AD 1550-1650, repurposed as a possible tooth pick.
The fragment comprises the terminal of the handle and part of the stem. The stem is slender and circular in cross section, and has been sharpened to a fine point, to which it tapers. The knop is formed of a flattened oval disc, which is inscribed with the initials R D, capitalised in a Latin script. This is adhered to a slender cylindrical attachment point, which is then swollen by two decorative collars, the upper markedly thicker than the lower.

A fragment of a copper alloy seal top spoon dating to the post medieval period, c. AD 1550-1625.
The fragment comprises the terminal of the handle and part of the stem. The stem is slender and sub-rectangular in cross section, with a flattened appearance. The knop is formed of a flattened sub-circular disc atop a more globular spherical region, which is vaguely anthropomorphic in appearance, with a possible suggestion of a human face with jocular cheeks. A fragment of a post medieval lead alloy spoon, dating to c. AD 1700-1800.
The fragment consists of a part of the terminal, which is badly damaged and does not preserve its original shape. It is flattened in cross section, with a moulded relief of a leonine figure which appears to be placed within a circle or possibly a heart shape. There is a suggestion of further floral decoration to the left of the beast's head. Two fragments of a post medieval copper alloy spoon handle, dating to c. 1500-1650.
The two fragments, which do not appear to have been directly joined to one another, are both broadly rectilinear in plan, although the second fragment tapers slightly, thickening to become broader while also flattening at the terminal end. The other fragment has a markedly more regular rectangular cross section and appears to have broken at the point where the handle meets the spoon. Both fragments are largely covered with a green patina. The broader area of the handle has a possible decorative desi…

A copper alloy fragment of a spoon from the post medieval period, c. AD 1689-1702.
The fragment comprises the terminal of a trefid form spoon, preserving a bust and inscription. The spoon is broken just where the broader terminal would join the spoon stem, and is somewhat damaged along its upper perimeter although its main form is preserved. On the obverse face is a stylised classical bust, probably of King William III, depicted draped and wearing a laureate bust. On the reverse is a series of three raised initial letters, arranged in a triangle, reading S/ IS. That these letters a…

A medieval or post medieval lead-alloy (pewter) latten spoon consisting of a fragment of a bowl, the handle and terminal broken into four pieces in antiquity.
The spoon's terminal is acorn or cone shaped and now much abraded such that any decoration on the acorn is now impossible to identify. Below the knop is a single ridged collar after which the handle begins. Below this collar the stem is pentagonal in cross section and slightly curved in profile. In particular it is bent downwards close to the knop. It gradually widens down the length of the stem before terminating in a flatte…
