A french copper Jetton or contemporary forgery of a french coin (possibly a quarter ecu) c. 1500-1600. A fleur-de-lis counter stamp on the obverse would indicate use in countries other than France although this was usually reserved for silver coins. The obverse has a shield of three fleur-de-lis surmounted by a crown with the counter stamp straddling the left of the shield edge. The reverse has a cross with double forked terminals surrounded by a beaded border. Each quadrant has a letter H or an omega within it. A partial but illegible legend is evident.
