Medieval copper alloy shaffron roundel or mount. The decorative mount would have been attached to the shaffron (armour worn on the head of a horse) at the centre of the horse's forehead. The mount is octagonal in plan. Each of the eight sections are raised in the centre, so that when viewed in section, the appearance is a 'zig zag'. At the centre is a small circular hole, through which a boss is attached with a pin. The outer side of the mount is decorated with a double line of incised running triangles.
