A copper-alloy looped socketed hammer dating to the late Bronze Age, c. 1600-800 BC.
The hammer is broadly rectangular in plan, but does taper slightly from the socketed end to the tip. In profile the tapering is more evident. In section it is square. The socketed end has a raised but flat collar. The socket is sub-square in shape with rounded internal corners. A fragment of the collar is broken and missing. A Bronze Age copper alloy socketed hammer, probably dating to the Late Bronze Age, c. 1100-800 BC. The hammer appears to be largely complete, although its original surface has largely corroded away and it is now covered in a bright green patina.
The base of the hammer expands outwards into the mouth of the socket. Both the internal and external edges of the mouth are sub-oval in shape, and the socket is 43mm deep. Below the mouth the hammer appears to narrow before expanding outwards into a slight rounded collar, in low relief.
