A medieval to post medieval copper alloy candle holder, dating to c. AD 1450-1550. The object is formed of a cylinder with a slight waist, which flares outwards into two curving legs. These extend diagonally, before curving back in upon themselves and creating a crescent which acts as a bipedal base. These have bevelled upper surfaces and are lozenge shaped in cross section. It will not stand unsupported, so is presumably a frargment of a larger candle holding object. It is near identical to NLM-0C4EC7, of similar proportions and design. Measurements: 58.9mm width, 42…

An incomplete copper alloy late-Medieval to Post Medieval candle-holder, dating to c.AD 1475-1600. The surviving portion of the object includes the stick and socket for the candle, the latter damaged. The base is missing. Both the stick and socket are circular in cross section, with the stick having a raised collar towards its base (c.17mm in diameter). A break is present just below the raised collar so it is uncertain how far the stick extended. The top of the stick flares outwards, thickening from 9.5mm to 19mm to form a collar around the base of the socket. The socket diameter r…

An incomplete copper alloy Late-Medieval to Post Medieval candle-holder, dating to c.AD 1475-1600. Both the stick and socket are circular in cross section, with the stick having a central raised collar and flaring into the base and socket. A short circular-sectioned projection expands from the base, whilst one side of the socket has been lost to an old break. The stick appears to have been completely hollow, although the end at the base is blocked by…

A Medieval to Post Medieval copper alloy candlestick stem and bowl, probably dating from the late 15th to the late 16th century (AD 1475 - 1575). The bowl is circular in plan and has a straight rim and vertical sides, which then taper slightly at an angle to the stem. Part of the bowl is damaged and is missing; the interior of the bowl is blackened, most probably as a result of candle burning. The stem is solid, undecorated, and cylindrical with a collar at the centre of the stem, and one towards the bottom end of the candlestick. The stem is socketed, where it would have fitted in…
