An incomplete copper-alloy lid from a set of nested cup weights. The lid is hinged and would originally have been attached to the outer case of the set, and it retains its hinge-lug, though this is now broken through. Three sub-rectangular struts are situated on the upper side of the lid: two arranged in a V shape emerging from one side and a single in between the V from the other side, this latter now truncated. A probable lead lid from a box of medieval date (c. AD 1300 - 1340). The object is a circular lead disc with a stamped design on one face depicting the arms of England (three lions passant guardant) surrounded by three palm branches. This is in turn surrounded by a collar which appears to contain foliate decoration and lettering, however, this is worn and indistinct. On the other side is a six petalled flower. The upper edge of the disc exhibits evidence of a relatively recent break, possibly indicating the position of a missing attachment tab or loop.
