An incomplete copper alloy probable furniture mount of Roman date, c. AD 100-400.  The object comprises a pointed oval plate, atop which is attached two stems which flare and curve around to form two facing spirals. They are broken just above the vertically raised point of the twin stems. The curving spirals give the impression on one side of possible facing zoomorphic decoration, but this is speculative. On the other side they are more solid and are solely geometric forms of decoration. These decorative elements are affixed to the lower plate with a circular rivet which ext…

A cast copper alloy toilet implement, possibly a spatula or nail file, dating to the Roman period, c. AD 300-410. The object consists of a hemispherical shaped flattened blade, the straighter side of which has a serrated edge, the other side of which is smooth and curving. The end is slightly broken, but does appear to have been a sharp triangular point, creating an asymmetrical appearance at the terminal. This area has also been bent upwards, probably post deposition. The blade is attached to a flattened cylindrical handle, which ends in a circular attachment loop. Both the blade and…

An incomplete Roman cast copper-alloy brooch of unusual form (c. 1st to 3rd century). It consists of a long, thin trapezoidal plate connected by an angled section to the head, probably for a hinged pin. It is unclear to what extent the head survives; the brooch is broken at the start of a section that is expanded slightly from that from which it extends. It may have developed into a tubular head to retain an axis bar for a hinged pin; there are hints of a central pin slot. As noted, a small angled section connects this to the plate; it is set at an angle of just over 45 degrees.&n…

Description: The coins are all extremely worn and damaged. They are adhered to each other strongly. There is some damage to the perimeter of two of the coins which are outermost, the remainder retain their perimeter and are less damaged. The coins appear to be silver Roman denarii. A draped bust of a young Caesar seen from behind (perhaps Geta or Caracalla) is visible on one of the outward-facing coins, though the details are unclear apart from a P in the inscription. There is pitting and damage on the other outward facing coin, but a possible base of a seated figure may survive indic…
