An almost complete cast lead or lead-alloy lion head mount of modern date, c. 1800-1900
Similarly to KENT-E56D67, the mount is circular in plan with moulded relief decoration in the form of a lion's head surrounded by a mane. All the protruding facial features and details are clearly visible. The lion head is surrounded by two concentric lines which separate it from an outer circular frame decorated with a floral motif. Object type: SEAL MATRIX
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Published
A Medieval lead seal matrix, probably dating to c. AD 1200-1300. The matrix is pointed-oval and flat, with an unperforated lug projecting from the reverse. The front of the matrix is engraved with a depiction of a crescent moon partly enclosing a star made from five curving radiating lines. The inscription is set between two plain lines and reads + SIGILL' WI' [...]I'. ROBI'.: with the final three characters of SIGILL cut across by a transverse bar indicating abbreviation. The missing letter, due to damage, is presumably an F, leading to the full inscription reading SIGILL WI' FI' ROB…

County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Medieval to Post Medieval cast lead-alloy circular bifacial token of Powell type 1/Powell type 2 (c. AD 1550-1850). The token has a raised design, with a central pellet surrounded by six eliptical petals reaching the edge of the token, in the fashion of a stylised flower. The reverse is marked with the initials C . F (or possibly E) with a transverse line above and below. The reverse design is also raised.
Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally; they are therefore hard to date precisely and could be Medieval or Post Medieval in date. Powell (2012: 1) notes tha…
