Description: An incomplete silver crucifix pendant of medieval date. The top of the cross with suspension loop and the left arm are intact but the right arm and bottom of the cross are missing. On the front of the crucifix is a stylised rendering of Jesus, characterised by an unscaled right hand and arm on the left cross bar, eventually forming the upper torso resting at the intersection of the crucifix bars. Collection of Roman pot sherds. The items consist of 14 body sherds (including 2 which join) and 3 rim sherds. The fabrics consist of a mixture of greywares, ranging from dark to light grey including some shell-tempered wares. There is also one fragment of a creamy-white fabric. Two of the rim sherds are of very simple everted form, the third rim is slightly inturned with a rounded outer lip and with two grooves below. Roman Brooch: An incomplete cast copper alloy Dolphin brooch of hinged pin design. The wings and bow survive. The wings are tubular and the axis bar can be seen in situ. Although worn the wings appear to have decoration consisting of several vertical grooves at at either end. The bow, which has a slightly swollen head as is typical of this class of brooch, is plain in decoration with a slight ridge crest (carination) running down the length. Roman Brooch: An incomplete cast copper alloy two-piece Colchester derivative brooch with double lug. The lug, at the head of the bow, is pierced twice for taking the axis bar and chord of the sprung pin fitting. A short segment of the axis bar is still in situ. The wings, which are semi-circular in section, are very short and undecorated. The bow, which is sub-circular in section, is also plain in decoration and tapers gently to a point at the foot. A complete cast copper alloy penannular ring which has a lozengiform cross-section with carinations on all sides. The ring tapers to a sharp point at one end but is blunt at the other. The ends almost meet with a gap of approximately 1mm between them. Unlike many other examples on the database there are no traces of gilding. The original patina is mostly lost. Objects of this shape are quite common finds from Roman contexts and are usually interpreted as earrings (Allason-Jones "Ear-Rings in Roman Britain", this is interpreted as Type 1 common from 1st to the 4th century).
