A lead pot mend weighing 8.31g. It has a maximum thickness of 8.2mm and measures 17.0mm x 15.0mm. One side has a sub-oval shape and smoother flattened surface. The other side has greater variation on the thickness axis and a more irregular undefined 'blob' shape. c.2.4mm in from the flatter surface the mend contracts, and would originally have passed through the vessel wall, before expanding on the opposite side. None of the vessel survives around the mend so no dating can be suggested.

Two lead pot mends found relatively close to one another. The thinner of the two mends weighs 34.11g. It has a sub-oval shape measuring 30.2mm x 22.4mm on the smoother larger side. The contraction accounts for c.2.0mm of the total thickness. The rougher side of the mend measures 34.1mm x 23.4mm. The two sides splay out in differing directions giving the mend an overal measurement of 38.0mm x 25.0mm. The mend has an overall thickness of 8.0mm. A very small amount of the ceramic vessel remains within the contraction. It has a mid brownish buff colour. However, not enough survives t…

A small ceramic vessel sherd of uncertain date ranging between Medieval to Post-Medieval. This abraded sherd weighs 4.43g. It measures 21.3mm x 19.0mm with a thickness of 9.2mm. The vessel has a reduced pale to mid grey core and oxidised outer surfaces. However, the presumed inner surface is curious in that the oxidised layer of the fabric is sandwiched between the core and a slightly darker mid grey layer. This 'layer' appears to be integral to the sherd rather than having been concreted, applied or accidentally fixed to the vessel. The knowledge of a pottery specialist would be need…

A rim sherd from a ceramic vessel. This sherd weighs 18.91g. The broken edges are abraded. The sherd has a maximum width of c.40.0mm and maximum height of 30.0mm. The rim has a maximum thickness of 15.4mm reducing to 11.3mm below. Closer to the break, which is opposite the rim, the thickness reduces further to 6.7mm. On, what is presumed to be the inner surface, a pale yellow and mid green mottled glaze survives below the thickest part of the rim. It is uncertain what form of vessel this sherd is from, although an open, possibly platter style item cannot be ruled out. The opposite sur…

Four sherds of later 19th - earlier 20th century AD ceramic vessel. These four pottery sherds are all from different vessels. More vessel sherds were found near to these but were left were found. 1) One sherd is made from a white porcelain like fabric. It weighs 2.39g and measures 17.7mm x 16.5mm with a thickness of 4.9mm. All of the breaks on this body sherd are fresh and irregular. Both the internal and external surfaces are glazed. The small sherd has a slight curve. The inner side is subtly concave with a smooth plain white surface. The external subtly convex surface has a whit…

An incomplete ceramic vessel handle probably of later Medieval to Post-Medieval date. The sherd is probably from a closed vessel form, possibly a jug or pitcher. It is advisable that this sherd should be shown to a pottery specialist for clarification on date and type. This fragment weighs 111.96g. It has an oxidised mid orange fabric with a pale grey reduced core. The handle has a width of 45.3mm and maximum thickness of 17.5mm. An incomplete Medieval to Post Medieval cast copper alloy cauldron foot. The artefact is comprised of a straight section of the leg, terminating in a protruding rounded foot. The artefact is broken at an angle, which appears to have been caused by the remains of an air bubble in what should have been a solid casting. This gives a variation in height. The longer side is 34mm and the shorter is 27mm. The air bubble occupies the majority of the cross-section of the leg. The straight section has a flat front and reverse. It has a trapezoidal cross-section which gives a variation in width.…

A copper-alloy artefact, most probably a vessel lid, probably of late Post-Medieval to Modern date. The remains of this lid weigh 40.89g. This artefact is formed of a sheet metal disc of 80.0mm diameter and 0.4mm thickness. This disc has several bends across it some of which have also cracked along part of the length of the bend. Much of the edge of the disc is also damaged resulting in an irregular circumference. No decoration is present on either side of the disc. A large copper-alloy vessel made from sheet metal. This vessel has a rounded base, not suited to being placed on a flat surface, shouldered biconnical profile surmounted by a vertical collar and outwardly rolled rim. Weight is 1225.0g, height is approximately 230.00mm, maximum diameter is 270.00mm and the circumference is 835.00mm. This vessel dates from the late Post-Medieval to Modern period. This artefact has Arabic influences and is likely to be from the time of the Arts and Crafts Movement, AD 1860-1910, so can be broadly dated to AD 1850 to present. It is possible that this vess…
