A worn copper-alloy harness pendant of Medieval date, c. 13th to 14th century AD. The body of the pendant is sub-square in shape measuring a width of 28.3mm, height of c.30.2mm and has a thickness of 1.0mm. The body is buckled having a slight undulating rather flat plane and the corners of the body are rounded rather than angular. A suspension loop projects up from the approximate centre of the upper edge of the body. This gives the artefact a total height of 38.5mm. The loop is turned through 90 degrees from the plane of the body. Maintaining a smooth line from the reverse surface of…

A copper-alloy Medieval harness pendant, most likely dating AD c.1300-c.1400. This pendant weighs 8.71g, has a maximum length of 38.8mm and maximum width of 26.6mm. The body of the pendant has a thickness of 2.3mm. It has six concavely curved sides that come to rounded points at the corners. Although the pendant has not been cast with any symmetrical accuracy, there are two corners to each side and one positioned at the centre of the lower edges. The sixth corner projects up from the centre of the upper edges and continues upwards to form the integral suspension loop. The base of this…

An incomplete copper-alloy artefact with traces of gilt dating to the Early-Medieval period. This is most likely part of a harness pendant of bichrome style (c. AD 500-570). It weighs 6.38g, has an incomplete length of 26.9mm and maximum width of 29.0mm.  It has a sub-triangular shape, the widest end having an almost completely straight edge (extremely subtly convexly curved) of 28.7mm width. This edge has a thickness of 1.9mm at the centre thinning slightly to 1.7mm at the corners. The edge of the artefact turns to an angle just greater than 90 degrees at the corners f…

A Medieval harness pendant. This artefact weighs 22.8g and is made from copper-alloy with the remains of a white metal (probably silvered) coating over all surfaces. The pendant has a sub-square centre (height 23.4mm x width 23.6mm), with eight projecting arms radiating out from the edges to form a star shape (height 47.2mm x width 50.5mm). On the upper surface at the centre, of the body of the pendant, is a lozenge shape that measures height 14.1mm x width 11.5mm. At the centre of the lozenge is a depressed quatrefoil field measuring height 6.4mm x width 5.9mm. It is probable that…

A copper-alloy lozenge shaped Medieval harness pendant dating c. AD 1100-1400, probably more secifically circa thirteenth to fourteenth centuries AD. The body of the pendant has a width of 35.0mm with a length of 33.8mm with an integral attachment loop emerging from one, the upper, corner. This attachment loop is set perpendicular to the body, with a circular perforation of 2.2mm, and this increases the total length of the artefact to 44.5mm. The loop expands to a thickness of 7.0mm and has a width of 2.2mm. The body of the pendant is roughly flat, although has sustained a fold (no…

A Medieval gilded copper-alloy harness pendant dating c. AD 1100-1400, and probably more precisely 13th to 14th Century AD date. It is uncertain whether this artefact is complete or incomplete due to the worn lower edge that might possibly disguise a break. A perforated suspension loop is present at the top of the artefact. This perforation is set at 90 degrees to the body of the pendant. See Griffiths, N., 1986 Horse Harness Pendants : Finds Research Group 700-1700 Datasheet 5.

A Medieval copper-alloy harness pendant dating to c. AD 1100-1400. This pendant is in the form of a six pelleted flower, each 'petal' ending with a rounded lobe and on the upper suface being separated from it's neighbouring petals by a 'V' shaped groove. The pendant would originally have been suspended from a shank with a suspension perforation at the top. A slight trace of the missing shank can be seen at the tip of one of the petals. The shank had a sub-square cross section but has broken off extremely close to the petal and what does remain is very worn. It is not possible to deter…

A copper-alloy horse harness pendant of Medieval date, c. AD 1100-1400. The pendant is in the form of an inverted fleur-de-lis. This has weakened the stalk projection, that includes the suspension loop set at 90 degrees to the pendant, to such an extent that it has become detached from the rest of the body of the pendant. The central projection has two notches in the end to form three small lobes. The two fragments have a total weight of 5.72g. The pendant had a length of 53.00mm incl…

Probably an incomplete copper-alloy pendant (probably harness pendant) of Medieval date, c. AD 1100-1400. The artefact is being described as 'probably' a pendant due to its incomplete state and that fact that most pendant's suspension lugs are set at 90 degrees from the rest of the artefact which is not the case with this item. The pendant seems to have been trefoil or leaf-shaped however at least two of the lobes have definitely had part of the lobe break off. The pendant is bent forward slightly and has a narrow crack 9.43mm long from the edge of one break into the centre of the …
