The find consists of eleven fragments of a medieval, silver spoon.  Four of the fragments constitute the slender stem of the spoon which terminates in a diamond-shaped knop. A silver seal-matrix of diminutive proportions.  Its sealing surface is circular and is engraved with three spheres within a three-pronged division, surrounded by a beaded border but without a legend.  The device is not easy to interpret.  The reverse is a cone-shaped hexagon terminating in a trefoil handle.  This tiny, enigmatic object was undoubtedly used as a personal seal rather in the fashion of a signet ring.

The coins are mostly official English issues, but with two coins of the Burgundian Netherlands, double patards, which were legal tender here at a valuation of fourpence, thanks to a convention between Edward IV and Charles the Bold in 1469.  The gold coin is of fine gold, over 94% pure.  The English silver coins are sterling standard, 92.5% fine, and the Burgundian coins are 80% fine silver. Silver Anglo-Saxon hooked tag, complete, l. 33mm, w. 14mm, wt. 1.95g.  This piece has a triangular plate with elegantly scalloped top and two internal holes near the corners for attachment. The field is plain but the long edges are decorated with borders of incised ladders.  There is a slight bulge above the tapering hook.  The back is plain.  This is probably a dress attachment which could have been used for veiling or gartering, probably the former because it is very light-weight. Heavier-duty hooked tags may also have been used to fasten purses.

A medieval finger ring, now badly distorted and measuring 21mm across its greatest diameter.  The ring is engraved with the phrase en bon an (‘in a good year’).    The inscription is punctuated with sprigs of foliage. The ring is silver and was once entirely gilded.  The gilding only survives on the interior of the hoop and in the deepest recesses of the engraved design.  Traces of solder can be seen between the words bon and an on both the interior and exterior surfaces of the ring.  It dates to the fifteenth century.

A medieval brooch formed from twisted wire crafted to create the impression of plaited ropes.  It measures 18mm x 16mm and is slightly damaged at the top right and at about a quarter down the left side.  It is highly decorative, an impression that is heightened by the random soldering of small spheres upon its surface.  These spheres may once have existed in more profusion and given an original appearance of greater symmetry, but this is by no means certain.

A gold enamelled and jewelled object of yet to be determined use, possibly a pendant, dress-ornament or belt-fitting. Openwork cartouche, central white enamelled square setting containing a cut garnet, on cruciform with short arms within elaborate blue and white enamelled foliate frame. Triple-ribbed suspension loop, small pierced trefoil at foot. The back of the setting stands slightly proud within incised cruciform marking-out lines. A ‘6’ or ‘9’ incised on the back of the setting. The gold content was found to be approximately 92%, the inset stone is a garnet.

Silver slip-top spoon. Broken into two pieces part way along the stem. The stem is hexagonal in section and flares out slightly at the distal end where it terminates in an angled slip-top. Incomplete post-medieval silver seal matrix. The die is oval and shows the negative design of a galleon with three masts and front and rear castles. This is surrounded by a beaded border. There is no lettered inscription. The shaft is six sided and would have terminated in a loop, which is now missing. The break edges are worn smooth and similarly patinated to the rest of the object suggesting this damage occurred in antiquity. Directly below the position of the loop is a moulded hexagonal collar, which mirrors the six sides of the shaft, and below this is a grooved line.

A post-medieval silver hooked tag, with a trefoil back plate. The edges are notched and leaf-like, with a dome-headed split rivet with an angled circular rove between three separate attached bosses, each decorated with three scrolls of twisted wire with six pellets between (two pellets missing from one boss) and plain wire around the base. The circular-sectioned hook is attached with solder, and there are scars from a separate horizontal bar on the reverse, now missing.

Fragment of a silver bodkin with a cross-shaped terminal and a bent, rounded scoop at the upper arm. Oblique notches form very short horizontal arms and a perforated rounded lower arm. The shank is rectangular, with five vertical and two horizontal engraved lines on both faces. The break runs across a longitudinal rectangular perforation. A similar example can be seen in Margeson (1993), pp. 8–9, plates I and II and fig. 4, no. 21.

This head-dress pin is of a type described as a ‘bodkin’. It has a flattened section with a rectangular eye. On both sides there is a serrated leaf motif below the eye, with on one side the inscribed letters M. C. and on the other a single inscribed F. It is broken through the eye and the terminal is missing. The pin has a more sinuous form than is commonly seen. It is a relatively plain example of its type.
