An antler knife handle with copper-alloy fitting dating to the Roman period. The handle is constructed from a small roe deer antler . At one end, the antler has been carved to from a circular-section lug, onto which a copper-alloy ring has been fitted. There is a rectangular piercing in the antler terminal in which there are the remains of an iron tang. The knife handle measures 171mm in length and a maximum of 20mm in diameter. The copper-alloy fitting measures 7mm in length and 18mm in diameter. It is possible that a parallel for this knife handle was found in a burial at Piercebrid…

A bone needle, probably dating to the Roman period, broken into three fragments. The needle has a flat rectangular-section head, pierced by a rectangular eye, now broken. The head extends to a circular-section stem which tapers and terminates in a point. The needle measures 84mm in length. The head has a width of 5mm and the stem a maximum diameter of 3mm. Although the head is broken, it appears to be a Crummy Type 2 needle (needles with a flat spatulate head) which were used throughout the Roman period.
